PM Dave Beige seen eating a sandwich. "TELLING," say sources
Cheese. White bread. No comment. Victoria Cheekbone-Smythe on the lunch Downing Street hoped you wouldn't notice.
What we know
At 12:41 yesterday, Prime Minister Dave Beige was photographed in a corridor eating a cheese sandwich.
White bread. No crusts removed. He chewed it, swallowed it, and then, according to a source close to the corridor, ate the other half.
Downing Street has refused to say what kind of cheese. When asked, the Prime Minister said: "Cheddar, I think. Mild."
Mild. Let that sink in.
The questions he won't answer
- Why a sandwich, and not a stance?
- Who made it?
- Is he ruling out a second sandwich? (He is not. He is not ruling anything out, because nobody, at any point, asked.)
"A man who eats a mild cheddar sandwich in a corridor is a man who has stopped governing. Sources close to the jawline tell me he didn't even mew between bites." — Victoria Cheekbone-Smythe
The cheekbone polling
This weekend's cheekbone polling puts the Prime Minister's jaw on 31%, down two points on last week and level with "a door". The Cabinet average is a soft 28%, dragged down by a junior minister photographed in a polo neck.
BB News has now covered the sandwich for six hours. The Prime Minister has not mentioned it once, which, frankly, is the most telling thing of all.
That's the angle.
